This lesson was created in order to introduce middle school students all about persuasive writing. Author’s purpose is reviewed prior to readers being introduced to the different facets of persuasive writing including how writers appeal to one’s sense of emotion, ethics, and/or reason. Either print or present this slideshow, covering all topics. Provide examples as needed. Once it has been presented, provide students a leveled persuasive text on a school-appropriate topic. Students can read together as a whole group, in a small group, or independently, highlighting words which provide clues as to which types of persuasive techniques were used in the article. Close the lesson by writing student examples on large tablet paper to serve as a future visual reference or anchor chart. Ideally this lesson should be introduced to students prior to teaching author’s purpose, and is available in both traditional PDF and digital formats. An instructional PDF on how to download and implement your own copy is attached as well. Once you have created your copy, you are free to modify and personalize it with your own Bitmojis.
