These cards were created for older elementary and middle school aged children with Autism Spectrum Disorder to identify their emotions and reflect on a given situation after a problematic behavior such as a meltdown transpired. The goal is to teach the kids how to identify their actions with the consequences which transpire after each problematic behavior happens. This can be a worksheet or printed, laminated and reused with dry erase markers. They have been used like this in our classroom and the kids keep them in a bag they can take home and show their families in the afternoons. It provides additional time to reflect. A few parents have sets at home as well for consistency. The goal ultimately is to help kids understand how they and every else feels and to provide them with the skills they need to prevent problematic behaviors such as meltdowns from happening in the future.
